Stomach Flu Treatment

There is never anything fun about the stomach flu, which is a most dreaded ailment. It’s bad when you have the stomach flu yourself, and it’s even worse when you have a house full of little people with the stomach flu and you are in charge of washing all the laundry and making sure that everyone’s needs are met!! If you’re a parent who’s experienced this I’m sure you’ll agree!

Upset stomachs, stomachaches and “upchucking” can stem from a number of things, including spoiled food and/or nervous stress, but the stomach flu is different because it’s usually caused by a virus.

You can Drink Ginger or Peppermint Tea to Relieve Stomach Flu…

When it comes to stomach flu treatment, herbs and essential oils are great choices. Herbal teas, such as ginger and peppermint are easy to come by, but the main advantage of essential oils is they are 50-70% more potent than herbs!

Essential oils have strong antiviral and disinfectant properties that effectively kill bacteria and viruses. They WORK FAST and can be used to make stomach flu much more bearable. They can also speed up the healing process. In addition, using essential oils regularly will strengthen the immune system and help ward off future episodes of the flu and stomach flu, which is always optimal!

Since the stomach flu usually strikes out of nowhere, having some high quality essential oils on hand is invaluable.

When it comes to essential oils, not all brands are the same. I recommend dōTERRA CPTG essential oils because they’re the only brand that undergoes extensive clinical testing at independent labs by experts to guarantee the oils are 100% safe, pure, and potent and safe to take internally as medicine.

Citrus oils

Citrus oils are fresh and uplifting and cleansing. They can be rubbed on the bottoms of feet and chest, and taken internally and diffused to provide relief.

Peppermint oil has an enlivening effect on the body and is very good for soothing digestive issues. Simply diffusing Peppermint essential into the air will automatically lift your mood and help you feel better. Peppermint pairs well with all other essential oils.

Ginger essential oil is antibacterial, analgesic, and antiseptic. It’s a good stomach tonic with anti-nausea properties.  Ginger reduces fevers and stimulates and clears the mind.  Ginger can be taken in a capsule, rubbed on the stomach and bottoms of feet, and diffused.

Cinnamon essential oil is an excellent choice for viral stomach flu treatment because by and large, viruses cannot live in the presence of Cinnamon oil. Pure Cinnamon oil tastes good but is strong so many people prefer to put a couple of drops in a capsule and take it as a pill. Cinnamon can also be rubbed on the bottom of the feet and diffused into the air  to destroy germs and viruses – just make sure you’re using pure Cinnamon oil, because scented oils and poor quality oils will not do the trick.

Oregano has STRONG antibacterial and antiviral properties so it’s great for cleaning up unhealthy viruses and bacteria in the body. You can take Oregano in a capsule, or if your stomach is too upset to get a pill down, you can rub it on the bottoms of feet. Also, diffuse Oregano in the air to destroy airborne germs. Diffuse with Peppermint to make Oregano much more palatable.

Fennel is soothing to the digestive system. You can put Fennel in a capsule, or you can simply put a drop on your hand and lick it (it tastes like black licorice). You can also rub Fennel on the bottoms of your feet, and diffuse it.

DigestZen is calming and soothing and excellent for all digestive issues. It has a FDA approved supplement label which means it’s safe for internal consumption and can be taken internally as medicine. DigestZen can also be rubbed on the stomach and bottoms of feet, and diffused into the air. DigestZen is optimal medicine for stomach flu, as well as all other types of common digestion issues. DigestZen is a “digestive” blend of Anise, Caraway, Coriander, Fennel, Ginger, Peppermint, and Tarragon.

You can make stomach-flu relief tea by adding drops of CPTG essential oils to a cup of steaming water and adding a little raw honey or agave nectar to sweeten. Try Ginger and Cinnamon, or Lemon, or Fennel, or Peppermint.

Using essential oils daily can help prevent the stomach flu, and make your next stomach-flu experience much more palatable.

Once you try DigestZen and other dōTERRA oils for stomach flu treatment, I think you’ll agree they’re “essentials” you won’t ever want to be without!
